Be an Optimist

Have you ever had one of those moments, the kind that leave you forever changed?

You’ve heard it said before, people come into our lives for a reason. The article below details one of those scarce instances. One gloomy morning, after coming in contact with a grumpy newspaper salesman, a businessman kept a positive attitude and wished him well. A complete stranger who was also in line for this morning paper stood stunned and questioned why the man was so pleasant to someone who obviously didn’t care; the answer he received changed his entire thought process. “Why would I let someone else control what I say and what I feel or what kind of day I’m going to have?”

The moral of the story goes back to our previous blog topic, Control What You Can Control. Reliance One’s Senior Account Executive, Rob Wicker encouraged job seekers not to dwell on things outside of their control but to do the best at managing what they could. When it comes to job hunting you want to make sure you represent yourself to the best of your ability and prepare for every opportunity that comes your way. Top Reasons to Invest in Interns

“Why businesses can’t afford not to have ‘paid’ interns” was an article recently featured on MLive.com, the piece written by Shandra Martinez explores the importance of establishing an internship program within growing companies. Last summer, Reliance One launched their own internship program by bringing aboard four reputable college students. The program was a great success – the interns spent the summer developing in recruiter roles. Each day they engaged with customers which provided them with hands-on work experience.  By the end of the program they had learned about entrepreneurship and work ethic.

The company plans to continue the internship program again this summer by offering paid opportunities. Jeff Gardner, Vice President of Sales feels, “Our first year of the internship program here at Reliance One paid huge dividends for our company.  We were able to provide a real work atmosphere for college students which enhanced our relationships with local Universities. The interns were extremely productive and fit right into our company culture; we were able to create a pipeline of future employees. Reliance One is already saving seats in local offices for interns this summer.”

What’s the driving factor to hiring interns? As Shandra states in her article, “they [interns] will be the leaders of our corporations in the future.” Here at Reliance One we give them insight to a professional environment, the interns returned the favor by helping to accelerate growth of the company. The Healing Power of a Helping Hand

In March 2012, Reliance One unlocked the doors to its headquarters in Auburn Hills. With the new building came a re-branding that completely changed the company. This inspired new success for Reliance One, which is just one of the reasons the company decided to become involved in community. After researching local organizations Reliance One discovered The Rainbow Connection a Michigan based charity dedicated to granting wishes to children who are literally fighting for their lives.

Reliance One agreed to Adopt a Wish and is currently working to raise $4,500 to make a child’s dream a reality. Currently they have risen over $800 through company fundraisers; a recent success was a day dedicated to gift wrapping during the holidays at Parisian a department store in the Village of Rochester. Planning has just begun for a Bowl-A-Thon as the next approach to raise money for the cause.

The Rainbow Connection was founded in 1985 and has since helped over 2,500 wishes come to life for kids ages 2 ½ – 18 years old. The organization has granted everything from family vacations to brand new cars; each inspiring story is listed on their website. To learn more about this amazing organization visit www.rainbowconnection.org. And be sure to keep an eye out for upcoming events held by Reliance One to sponsor the Rainbow Connection!

New Year – Fresh Start.

What does the New Year have in store for you? That’s simple, nothing. “It means your future hasn’t been written yet. No one’s has. Your future is whatever you make it.” This quote from the 1990 movie Back to the Future Part III holds a lot of meaning, and can help you shape 2013 into a year to remember.

1)      Not happy with your career? Make a change. Update your resume and seek out training classes or certifications that will update your skills and give you fresh approach to the evolving job market.

2)      Readjust your budget. Take a look at your finances from 2012 and make a list of necessary expenses. Cut where you can and monitor where your paycheck goes, you’ll feel more organized and less stressed when the bills are due.

3)      New Year = new you. This doesn’t have to be a budget breaker but do something for yourself – change your hairstyle, buy a brand new outfit, or rearrange your bedroom. Whatever it is give yourself a fresh prospective. You’ll feel rejuvenated and start 2013 with a new attitude.
